This is an objective assessment of postoperative pain based on the usage of analgesia by the patient. (We are grateful to Iftikhar Khan for his work on devising this score.)

Points to be administered in the first 5 post-operative days :

1. •1 point for every mg of morphine used
   

2. •2 points for each dose of oral dihydrocodeine (60mg)
   

3. •5 points for each dose of oral diclofenac sodium (75mg)
