This clip shows a thoracoscopic right lower lobectomy. The port positions, instruments and the conduct of the procedure are demonstrated.


VATS lobectomy is suitable for small peripheral lung tumours where PET scan has shown no hilar node involvement or for secondary tumours deep within a lobe (metastasectomy). I have also used the technique for inflammatory conditions and carcinoids, including sutured bronchial closure. Anatomical segmentectomy and pneumonectomy are also possible.
